With one game in the books for the Vancouver Canucks 2016-17 regular season, one confident fan has taken the preemptive step in honoring the Canucks’s future Stanley Cup win by tattooing it on his body.
Wayne Matthews of Squamish tweeted a photo of his newly finished Canucks tattoo Sunday morning; less than Vancouver’s regular season opener versus Calgary. The tattoo, located on the outer part of his right calf, depicts a large Stanley Cup with the text “Vancouver Canucks 2016-17 Champs” etched onto the trophy. Matthews is a regular-season ticket holder for the Canucks and believes his tattoo will pay off come next June.
“I think it’ll be kind of like a good luck charm, eh,” said Matthews. “And don’t think this was a spur the moment decision either. I went to everyone of their preseason games at home this year. They finished with a strong 3-4 record. If that doesn’t sound like a future Stanley Cup champ then I don’t know what does, eh.”
Matthews reportedly went to a local tattoo parlor called Pins and Moose shortly after Saturday’s game. Pins and Moose owner Clarence Dubose says this isn’t the first time he’s seen Canucks fans with Matthews’s level of passion walk into his shop.
“This one time, two guys walked in here after a Canucks win and wanted to get their entire skin covered with a neon green tattoo, eh” said Dubose. “Sadly, I told them I didn’t have enough neon green ink on hand in the shop to cover their orders. They said they understood and the next day they came into my shop saying they opted for neon green body suits instead. Real nice fellas. Haven’t heard from them since, eh.”
The Canucks opened their regular season Saturday with a 2-1 win at home against the Flames.
