Having just graduated from the University of Oregon, I remember all of the rituals at Ducks sporting events that made the O unique. One of the most well-known tradition for the song Shout by Otis Day & The Knights to play toward the end of games alongside the infamous scene in the movie Animal House where it became famous. For those of you who don’t know, Animal House was filmed on the campus of the University of Oregon (take that University of Washington and your 21 & Over).
For the upcoming football season (though not important enough for the Eastern Washington game apparently), the University of Oregon has unveiled a new version of the Shout scene from Animal House starring many well-known former Ducks. I don’t know why I wasn’t called but that’s beside the point.
The list of Oregon Ducks in this video is quite extensive. You have Marcus Mariota playing the role of Bluto, The Duck as the annoying guitar guy, Joey Harrington as Boon, and Modern Family star Ty Burrell as Pinto. Other notable Duck alumni in the crowd for the dance scene include former San Diego QB Dan Fouts, Ashton Eaton who won the gold medal for the US in the decathlon in 2012, Oregon’s leading rushers LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner, and 8-time All-American track athlete English Gardner.
Nike’s own Tinker Hatfield, aka the guy who designed just about every Nike shoe in your closet right now, made an appearance along with SportsCenter anchor Neil Everett. Why Uncle Phil or Cliff “We Smoked It All” Harris didn’t make an appearance we’ll never know. I mean, marijuana is legal now in Oregon, isn’t it?
This new video will replace the Animal House footage shown on the video board at Autzen Stadium and Matthew Knight Arena from now on at Duck games according UO Senior Associate AD and every car salesman ever Craig Pintens.
